Since 2012, the Turin Clinic has been running a therapeutic education programme for patients with kidney failure: from screening for kidney disease to kidney purification.
The general aims of the programme are to acquire the knowledge needed to better manage the disease on a day-to-day basis, avoid complications, work more effectively with carers, slow the progression of renal failure by understanding diets, prepare patients for transplantation and draw up patient information sheets.
Since 2015, the following objectives have been added: increased monitoring of the feet of diabetic patients, monitoring of undernutrition, biological analysis, transplantation, renal physiology and vital emergencies.
A balanced and varied diet is essential.
Between two sessions, weight gain resulting from the accumulation of water in the body must not exceed 5% of body weight.
Salt, potassium and phosphorus intake must be controlled. Potassium is essential for the cells, but too much in the blood can cause muscle fatigue or heart problems. It is normally eliminated by the kidneys, but for you this function is performed by dialysis.
The dietician and the team will be happy to provide you with all the information you need.
A consultation with a diabetologist is organised at the patient's bedside for each new diabetic patient, and then at the request of the patient, his or her family or a medical or paramedical staff member.
A psychologist is at your disposal
